United Way of the Concho Valley has three main priorities, one of which is to ensure that all children are school-ready by kindergarten and grade-level readers by third grade. United We Read helps bring literacy awareness to the community. Children learn to read from kindergarten through third grade and read to learn from fourth grade onward. We recognize that the earlier a child falls behind in school, the greater the chance they will drop out of high school.
2023 United We Read
United Way implemented United We Read to provide more books to homes and raise awareness about literacy. Every year, United Way places volunteers in every second-grade classroom across the 14 counties of the Concho Valley, where each child receives a copy of their book of choice and participates in a related craft. This project will benefit approximately 2,100 students in the Concho Valley
Thank you to the thousands of volunteers who make this day possible. You're making a huge impact on literacy in the Concho Valley.
