United We Read

MARCH is NATIONAL READING MONTH!

Join United Way Concho Valley as we challenge all children of the Concho Valley to the largest reading challenge to date!  Let's celebrate literacy and our launch of the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.   Download the below documents and have your parent/guardian help guide you to reading in new locations every day and reaching a goal of reading for 20 minutes each day.

At the end of the month, you can submit your signed reading log via social media or by dropping it off at our office and we will draw for FREE ICE CREAM!  There will be multiple winners!

United Way of the Concho Valley has three main priorities, and one of those is to ensure all children are school-ready by kindergarten and grade-level readers by 3rd grade. Children are learning to read from Kindergarten through 3rd Grade and are reading to learn from 4th Grade on. We know that the earlier a child falls behind in school, the higher the chance they will drop out of high school. United Way implemented United We Read as a way to get more books into homes and to raise the awareness of reading to and with children.

2023 United We Read - Be You by: Peter H Reynolds

United We Read is a project that will happen in second-grade classrooms across the 14 counties of the Concho Valley. Thanks to The Health Foundation, every second grader received a copy of the book BE YOU by Peter H. Reynolds and a craft to go along with the story. Volunteers fill classrooms to read with students and help assemble crafts. This is vital so students can see adults helping make reading fun and enjoyable! This project will benefit approximately 2,100 students in the Concho Valley.
